And that's why your applications are "routing" their audio differently based on when your Bluetooth headset is switching between profiles. I suspect that if you check, you'll find that your Headphones device is set as the default playback device while the Headset device is the default communications device. This design allows you to have music playing out of speakers while still having the audio of a call get sent straight to a headset, for example. Teleconferencing applications tend to use the communications device, whereas most everything else uses the playback device. You can see this if you go to Control Panel > Sound (select Small Icons view to see this if Control Panel opens in Category view).

Additionally, Windows has separate designations for "default playback device" and "default communications device". A Bluetooth device cannot use A2DP and HSP at the same time. So instead of having separate Headphones and Headset devices for my Jabra Evolve, the system just sees "Jabra Link 370", and always uses that device to send/receive Correct. It is technically possible to pair this headset directly to my PC using regular Bluetooth, but one of the main benefits to using the dongle instead is that in the dongle only presents itself to the system as a single audio output device and single mic input, and then the dongle itself switches between transmitting/receiving on different Bluetooth profiles as needed based on what's going on within the system. The second profile is HSP (Headset Profile), which is a lot older and uses lower quality mono audio, but unlike A2DP it supports a simultaneous mic channel to allow return audio. The first is A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), which allows relatively high quality stereo audio. The way Bluetooth headphones that include a microphone in order to operate as headsets work is that they support two different Bluetooth "profiles".
